As reported by The Verge, Microsoft may be teasing an up and coming launch for the HoloLens 2. Earlier in the month, Microsoft’s technical fellow and HoloLens creator, Alex Kipman, published a 42-second video on YouTube which shows what appears to be a processor and perhaps a carbon-fibre construction. Kipman posted the video with the caption “Are you excited yet? I am! This has sparked rumours that Microsoft are planning to unveil the HoloLens 2 at the Mobile World Conference next week. The event takes place in Barcelona on February 24th. Microsoft will stream the event live here at 5PM CET / 11AM ET / 4PM UK. Some of The Things You Can Expect With HoloLens 2 Currently, the HoloLens has a 35-degree FOV and weighs 579 grams. Some of the things we can expect with the new device is for it to be smaller, lighter, include eye-tracking and have a 70-degree field of view, twice that of what it is now. Nreal Light mixed reality glasses – a serious player in the game? The consumer electronic show (CES) 2019 kicked off at the city of sin this week where over 180,000 tech geeks and enthusiasts gathered at the Las Vegas Convention Center to see the latest up and coming technology and gadgets. Chinese tech giants Huawei have revealed in a recent interview that they are developing some AR glasses which they plan to release within the next two years.   Huawei already launched a variety of augmented reality apps which you can find on the Huawei’s latest Mate 20 Pro smartphone. The company haven’t revealed much about the AR headset but they have said they’ve been hiring computer vision specialists for its R&D departments for some time.  Huawei have consistently been at the forefront of technology. The company is involved in laptops, smart speakers, cloud storage, music streaming, video content and are currently developing a foldable 5G phone. The tech juggernauts have managed to stand out from the crowd by giving the buyers what they’ve been asking for. For example, developing more durable phones with longer battery life. It’s been a long, anticipating wait for Magic Leap One to reveal itself to the public. However, earlier today, the Magic Leap One creator addition was finally made available for sale, putting an end to the question of a release date. Well, sort of. Where to Buy a Magic Leap One Headset and Its Cost The mixed reality headset is currently only up for grabs in certain areas of the United States of America (6 cities). The device also comes with a hefty price tag. The cost of a Magic Leap One Creator Edition is Just shy of $2.3k, or $2,295 to be exact. The Creator Edition isn’t quite a development kit. The Kickstarter campaign for AntVR’s AR glasses ‘MIX’ come to a close this week after a month’s long project. Incredibly, the device managed to secure funding after just 8 hours of being posted on Kickstarter. MIX, which is set to retail from $649, smashed its original target of $50,000, securing almost 4x the funding of $190,450. What to Expect with a MIX Device MIX is small, lightweight and comfortable. Compared to Hololens for example which comes in at a weight of 579g, MIX only weighs 130g. Users can enjoy an immersive 96-degree field of view with a MIX AR headset as well as a 2400 x 1200 resolution, fps of 90hz plus a built in microphone. AntVR state they’re able to develop a larger field of view and slimmer size than competing products because of a dual-channel mixed optics invented by the company. They go on to say: Dual-channel mixed optical system has a compound structure with multiple layers. The key component is a set of dual-channel lenses with two different optical channels for enlarging the display light and bypassing the real light, to present AR vision with a large FoV. While augmented reality continues gathering steam. HTC have become the latest major tech company to introduce their approach to the field of AR. Recently, they announced an update made to the Vive Pro model which enables it to function as an AR device.  This announcement comes shortly after Magicleap.inc released the first selection of the company’s much anticipated AR headset. Earlier this week. A Magic Leap spokesman confirmed the company has released a selected number of augmented reality headsets to a handful of developers. The company are well known as being reluctant on revealing any tasters as to what’s happening behind the scenes. So announcing that the first batch of headsets has been released is the most progressive step forward where the public are concerned. Magic Leap has made the first selection of devices available to various software developers, journalists, potential business partners and investors. The conditions of owning a prototype are tight. The headset must be hidden from public eye.  They were also forced to sign strict contracts stating the device must be locked away in a secure safe at all times when not in use. Since it was first announced three years ago. Hololens continue to remain the leader in the mixed / augmented reality headset space. Microsoft first made the device available for developers and enterprises. Soon after, the technology giants have made it possible for anybody willing to front the cash to have their very Hololens headset sent to their door. Only thing is. At a ball-wrenching 3000 dollars. Most will have to be satisfied with living of packed noodles and getting the bus to work until some costs can be covered. In reality.
