New free feature removes the traditional download-and-open process, letting VR users launch AR and passthrough videos directly from ARPornTube into DeoVR.
ARPornTube, one of the largest free online libraries dedicated to AR and passthrough adult content, has launched Watch in AR, a new feature designed to make accessing passthrough video on VR headsets significantly faster and easier.
Users browsing ARPornTube from a compatible VR headset can now select Watch in AR on a video page to hand the selected stream directly to DeoVR for immersive playback.
Previously, viewers wanting to experience passthrough content through a dedicated VR player would typically need to download the video file, locate it on their headset, open it manually in DeoVR and ensure the appropriate viewing mode was selected.
Watch in AR removes much of that process.

There is no ARPornTube account or subscription required, and Watch in AR is available free across the site’s compatible video library.
Passthrough adult content has advanced considerably alongside a new generation of mixed-reality headsets. Higher-quality colour passthrough allows immersive video to be combined with the viewer’s physical surroundings rather than placing the viewer entirely inside a virtual environment.
But accessing that content hasn’t always been simple.
Different videos can use different stereo layouts, projections and transparency techniques. Users downloading files for local playback may encounter terms such as 180°, fisheye, LR/SBS, Alpha and chroma key before they ever get to the experience itself.
ARPornTube developed Watch in AR around a simple idea: the viewer shouldn’t need to understand the underlying video format just to watch it.
“The quality of passthrough content has moved forward incredibly quickly, but the way people access it hasn’t always kept pace,” said the founder of ARPornTube.
“We wanted to remove the technical steps between discovering a scene and experiencing it. If somebody finds something they want to watch, they shouldn’t need to download a file, locate it on their headset and configure a player first.”

Unlike a browser-native WebXR player, Watch in AR uses ARPornTube as the discovery and launch layer while DeoVR handles the immersive playback experience.
A viewer browses ARPornTube through their headset browser as normal. When Watch in AR is selected on a compatible video, ARPornTube passes the video stream and relevant playback information to DeoVR.
DeoVR then opens the content for immersive viewing without requiring the user to download the complete video file first.
This approach allows ARPornTube to retain the convenience and discoverability of the web while using a dedicated immersive video player for playback.
It also means Watch in AR sits alongside ARPornTube’s existing viewing options rather than replacing them. Users can still watch through the site’s existing VR player or download compatible videos for local playback.
Not all passthrough video is produced in the same way.
Traditional chroma-key passthrough typically involves a performer filmed against a coloured background, with that background removed during playback so the viewer’s real-world surroundings can remain visible.
Newer Alpha Passthrough content incorporates transparency information into the video, allowing compatible playback software to separate the subject from the background without relying on conventional colour keying.
ARPornTube’s Watch in AR system has been developed to accommodate both approaches.
For supported Alpha content, the platform identifies the appropriate content and provides DeoVR with the information required to enable its Alpha Packing playback functionality automatically.
The aim is to keep those technical differences behind the scenes rather than requiring viewers to understand how each scene was produced.
Although the experience presented to the viewer is deliberately simple, passthrough libraries contain videos produced using multiple VR formats.
Projection and playback characteristics can differ between scenes, including conventional VR180, fisheye formats and wider field-of-view content.
ARPornTube’s Watch in AR system is therefore being built around the metadata associated with each video so that the appropriate playback information can be supplied automatically.
The same philosophy extends to local downloads, where compatible naming information can help VR playback software recognise how a video should be displayed.
For the viewer, the objective remains the same: less configuration and more immediate access to the content.
Watch in AR is available across ARPornTube’s compatible library of free trailers and previews from studios producing AR, passthrough and immersive VR content.
The platform includes content from leading producers such as SLR Originals, ARPorn.com, PassthroughVR and VRSpy, alongside a growing range of other immersive studios.
No ARPornTube account or paid ARPornTube subscription is required to use Watch in AR or access the site’s free content.
The wider immersive-web ecosystem is also evolving.
WebXR provides a web standard that allows compatible browsers and headsets to deliver immersive VR and AR experiences through the web. Browser-native approaches can potentially perform session management, spatial rendering and passthrough experiences without handing playback to a separate application.
Watch in AR takes a different approach.
Rather than attempting to reproduce the complete immersive video player inside the browser, ARPornTube connects web-based content discovery with dedicated DeoVR playback.
For ARPornTube, the immediate priority is reducing the number of steps required for people to access existing passthrough content while supporting the different video formats already being released by studios.
As browser-native immersive technologies continue to mature, ARPornTube intends to continue exploring ways of making the transition between the web, VR and mixed reality increasingly seamless.
ARPornTube believes usability will become increasingly important as passthrough moves beyond early adopters and becomes a more established part of immersive entertainment.
“People shouldn’t need to know what Alpha Packing is, whether a video is fisheye or which projection setting they need before they can enjoy AR content,” the founder added.
“Those things matter technically, but wherever possible they should be handled by the platform rather than the viewer.”
